Steps to e-file Income Tax Return on Income Tax Website
You can e-file your ITR on the income tax department’s website in the following two manners. Follow steps 1 through 6 to prepare and submit the ITR on the e-Filing Website.
- Option – 1. Prepare and submit the tax return on E-filing website
- Navigate to Income Tax Return option
Therefore, click on the e-File > Income Tax Return option

Hence, select the ITR Form, Assessment Year, Filing Type and Submission Mode from the drop-down list

- Acknowledgement mail
Upon successful submission of the return, you will be provided with a download link for acknowledgement. You will also receive an acknowledgement on your registered email id.
- Option – 2. Upload XML through E-filing Portal
Follow steps 1 and 2 and then click on choose file and select the .xml file from the location where you have saved it.

You can opt to digitally sign the return if you have a valid USB token. Finally, on successful submission of the return, you will be provided with a download link for acknowledgement.
