FAQs

How does the taxpayer become the transporter in the EWB system?

Generally, a registered GSTIN holder will be recorded as a supplier or recipient and he will be allowed to work as a supplier or recipient. If registered GSTIN holder is a transporter, then he will be the one to Generate EWB on behalf of the supplier or recipient. He needs to enter both supplier and recipient details while generating EWB, which is not allowed as a supplier or recipient. To change his position from supplier or recipient to transporter, the taxpayer has to select the option ‘Register as Transporter’ under registration and update his profile. Once it is done with, logout and then Log into your EWB Account, the system changes the taxpayer as a transporter and allows him to enter details of both supplier and recipient in EWB as per invoice.

What is a transporter ID?

Transporter ID is a 15-digit unique identification number allotted to an unregistered Transporter enabling the generation of e-Way Bills. All the transporters are required to generate an EWB if:
1. The value of the consignment or goods of a single supplier exceeds INR 50k or,
2. The value of all the goods in a vehicle through which goods are transported cumulatively exceeds INR 50k.

Where and when to use transporter ID?

Unregistered Transporters have to mention this ID on every e-Way Bill in place of GSTIN. Therefore, transporters provide this number to the suppliers/consignor to mention it on the EWBs generated by them which in turn enables the transporter to Update the Vehicle Number later for movements of goods.

Got Questions? Ask Away!

  1. Hey @ViraajAhuja47

Yes. All the registered persons under GST must register on the portal of e-way bill using their GSTIN. Once GSTIN is entered, the system sends an OTP to the registered mobile number, registered with GST Portal and after authenticating the same, the system enables you to generate your username and password for the e-way bill system.

After the generation of the username and password of your choice, you may proceed to make entries to generate an e-way bill.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Hey @HarshitShah

The validity period of the e-Way Bill is calculated on the basis of ‘approx. distance’ entered while generating the e-Way Bill. For every 100 KM, one day is a validity period for the e-Way Bill as per rule and for part of 100 KM, one more day is added. For example, If approx. distance is 410KMs then the validity period is 4+1 days.
