What is the FSSAI Registration?
FSSAI Registration is a basic food license. It mandatory for all the food business operators (FBO) involved in the small-scale food business to obtain a FSSAI registration certificate. The FSSAI Licence and Registration have different procedures, follow-ups and also documentation. Small scale businesses obtain a basic FSSAI registration certificate. It is mandatory for all the FBO apart from small-scale businesses to obtain FSSAI License. It is classified under two categories i.e State FSSAI License and Central FSSAI License that is only based on the size of the business whether it is a medium scale or large scale business.
An online system called Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS), launched by FSSAI facilitates this process. The Validity of FSSAI registration is for 1 year to 5 years. Before 30 days of the expiry date, the renewal of the FSSAI registration should be applied. Since FLRS is an online portal for all this, registration and renewal can be done easily.
Eligibility for FSSAI Registration
- Any FBO with an annual turnover of not more than Rs. 12 lakh.
- Petty retailer dealing in food products
- Any person who manufactures or sells any food article by himself
- Food sale done by a temporary stall holder
- Any individual who distributes food in any religious and also social gathering except a caterer
- Small-scale or cottage industries dealing in the food business
FSSAI Registration Online Procedure
- Firstly, The FBO must create User name and Password on FLRS. You require either valid email id or Mobile Number.
- To initiate your registration, you must submit Form A (application) to the Food and Safety Department. The FSSAI basic registration is for every petty food business operator. And so, they can register themselves with the Registering Authority (RA) by submitting an application for the registration purpose along with a fee of Rs.100/-
- The department either accepts or rejects the application within 7 days from the date of receipt of the application. If the application is rejected, then an intimation in writing is sent to the applicant.
- Once the department accepts the application, then the department grants a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.
- If necessary, the RA may issue a notice for inspection. The inspection must be ordered within seven days.
- If the process of inspection is granted, then the inspection is conducted within 30 days.
- After successful completion of the process, the department grants a registration certificate with the registration number and also the photo of the applicant.
- FBO should prominently display the certificate of registration at the place of business during the business hours.

FAQs
An improvement notice is if a Food Business Operator fails to comply with the food regulations set in the FSS Act, 2006. A Designated Officer (DO) of the food safety department issues the notice.
Any FBO can appeal to the Commission of Food Safety within 15 days from the date on which a notice of the decision was served.
Depends on improvement/ compliance submitted by Agency, DO will decide accordingly. The DO orders the Inspections.
