A person carrying the goods on behalf of the suppliers or receivers can Generate an e-Way Bill (EWB) from the EWB Portal. An individual has to generate an EWB even if they are moving goods for their own consumption. However, they can complete the registration process on the EWB portal as a citizen to generate an EWB for the movement of goods.

Steps to Register as a Citizen on the EWB portal

  1. Visit the EWB portal

    Navigate to the “Registration” option on the dashboard of the EWB portal and click on the “e-Way Bill for Citizens” option from the drop-down list.e-Way Bill Portal - Dashboard

  2. Generate new EWB

    We move to the e-Way Bill For Citizen page. Click on the “Generate New EWB” option.e-Way Bill Portal - Generate New EWB

  3. Enter the required details

    Hence, we move to the enrollment page of the citizens. Enter your “State” and “Name” in the respective fields.e-Way Bill Portal - Enter Personal Details

  4. Address details

    Furthermore, enter your address details under the “Address” section.e-Way Bill Portal - Address Details

  5. Validate contact details

  6. Verify details and complete the process

    Hence, click on the check-box under the “Verification” section. Finally, once the above-mentioned process is complete, click on the “Continue To Bill Generation” option.

Therefore, this facility enables any citizen of India to generate an e-Way Bill by going on the EWB portal. Furthermore, there is no advance registration required on the portal to generate an EWB for the citizens. The citizen registration can be done on the EWB portal at the time of generating an EWB

Who can generate the e-Way Bill?

Every person who causes movement of goods of consignment value exceeding INR 50,000 in relation to the supply or for any other reason other than supply shall generate an EWB. It means the consignor or consignee, as a registered person or a transporter can enroll on the common portal and generate the EWB for the movement of goods for their clients. Any person can enroll and generate the EWB for the movement of goods for their own purpose.

I have already registered in GST Portal. Whether I need to register again on the eWay Portal?

Yes. All the registered persons who need to generate e-way bill under GST are required to register on the e-way bill portal namely: www.ewaybillgst.gov.in using his/her GSTIN.

Whenever I’m trying to register with my GSTIN, the system is saying ‘Invalid GSTIN’ or the details for this GSTIN are not available in GST Common Portal. How should I resolve this issue?

This indicates that the GSTIN entered by you is wrong or your GSTIN details is not available in the GST Common Portal. Please check the GSTIN entered or go to the GST portal (www.gst.gov.in) and check the details of your GSTIN under ‘Search Taxpayer’ Tab.

    Yes. All the registered persons under GST must register on the portal of e-way bill using their GSTIN. Once GSTIN is entered, the system sends an OTP to the registered mobile number, registered with GST Portal and after authenticating the same, the system enables you to generate your username and password for the e-way bill system.

    After the generation of the username and password of your choice, you may proceed to make entries to generate an e-way bill.

    The validity period of the e-Way Bill is calculated on the basis of ‘approx. distance’ entered while generating the e-Way Bill. For every 100 KM, one day is a validity period for the e-Way Bill as per rule and for part of 100 KM, one more day is added. For example, If approx. distance is 410KMs then the validity period is 4+1 days.
