    You have to Download DSC Management Utility from the income tax e-filing portal. A zip folder is downloaded

When I register DSC on Income Tax Portal, an error appears on the screen as “The Digital Signature Certificate is already registered”. What should I do?

Digital Signature Certificate cannot be registered by multiple users. This error may appear if the taxpayer is trying to register a DSC that belongs to someone else. The DSC must belong to the taxpayer and should have their PAN encrypted.

When I register DSC on Income Tax Portal, an error appears on the screen as “The PAN mentioned in the Digital Signature Certificate does not match. Please retry”. What should I do?

If the PAN in the Digital Signature Certificate does not match with the registered PAN of the taxpayer, PAN mismatch error will appear on the screen. The taxpayer should contact the Certificate Provider and check the PAN in DSC.
If the taxpayer is a Firm / Company / AOP / BOI / Legal Authority / Co-operative Society / Artificial Juridical Person / Trust, ensure that the PAN mentioned in the Digital Signature is of principal contact (Authorized Signatory). If the principal contact has changed, ensure that you have updated PAN details of the new principal contact (under ‘Profile Settings’ > ‘Update Principal Contact’s details). The PAN encrypted in DSC should match with PAN of principal contact.

TRACES means TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System. It is the online portal for administration and implementation of TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) and TCS (Tax Collected at Source). To Register DSC on TRACES or for KYC validation using DSC, it is mandatory to download and install WebSocket emSigner.   7. Enter CIN details

    Under Part 1, enter Challan Identification Number (CIN) details of a challan used in the TDS return:
    1. BSR Code or Receipt Number
    2. The date on which tax is deposited – enter in dd-mm-yyyy format eg: 10-Jan-2019
    3. Challan serial number or DDO serial number – 5 digit number eg: 00025
    4. Challan amount or Transfer voucher amount – enter the amount with decimal places eg: 1569.00
    5. CD Record Number – It is not mandatory to enter this. It should be filled when the same challan is mentioned more than once in the statement (TDS Return)

  8. Enter unique PAN amount combination

    Under Part 2, enter unique PAN-Amount Combination for Challan:
    1. If there is no valid PAN in the challan details, select the checkbox
    2. PAN as in Statement – Enter the valid PAN reported in TDS Return. You can enter details of a maximum of 3 valid PANs. If there are less than three combinations, enter all combinations (one or two)
    3. Total Amount Deposited – Enter the TDS deposited for the PAN. Enter the amount with decimal places eg: 1569.00

  9. Success page

    The success page will appear on the screen once the KYC details are validated. You can now access the following services:
    1. Access all downloads for any financial year, quarter or form type

I logged out of my TRACES Account. Do I need to do KYC validation again?

Yes. The KYC validation is valid for one session only. If you log out from the account or the session expires, you have to login once again and complete the KYC validation to access the services.

During KYC Validation on TRACES, I am getting an error, ‘More than one PAN in the challan’. What should I do?

You need to enter the data of atleast 3 unique combinations of PAN and Amount. If there are more than one PAN, enter data of atleast 3 unique PANs. Further, CIN of that challan should be entered which has been claimed for at least two, three or more PANs.

I have less than three Deductees. How should I fill three unique PAN-Amount combinations?

Enter the valid PAN reported in TDS Return. You can enter details of maximum 3 valid PANs. If there are less than three combinations, enter all combinations (one or two). Each combination entered should be unique. View Step 8 of the Article to refer an example.

Error Messages for DSC Registration on TRACES

Error 1: PAN Mismatch

The error for PAN mismatch would appear when the user selects an incorrect digital signature certificate not associated with the same PAN.

Error 2: DSC already registered

When the user registers or re-registers with a digital signature certificate which is already registered before, an error message is displayed on the screen – ‘Certificate selected is already registered’

Error 3: DSC is revoked

If the Certifying Authority has revoked the certificate and the system updates Certificate Revocation List with the corresponding crl (certificate revoking list) file, you will not be able to register revoked certificate on TRACES.

Error 4: DSC verification failed

If the certificate verification fails, an error message ‘Error occurred while DSC registration. Please try after some time’ will appear on the screen. In that case, contact TRACES helpdesk or send an email to contactus@tdscpc.gov.in

Error 5: DSC expires

When the registered DSC is about to expire, a message ‘Your certificate will expire in ‘n’ days’ will appear on the screen to intimate the user regarding the expiry of DSC.

You need to clear the cookies and reload the website. If the issue still persists check the browser being used. Internet Explorer 7,8 or 9, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox 17 & above are the compatible browser for TRACES

MCA Portal: How to Associate DSC?

MCA portal provides online services related to registration and filing of statutory documents for Indian company/ LLP. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is required for online filing of documents. Therefore it is important to first associate/ register DSC on MCA Portal. You can associate DSC for any of the following roles of an individual:

  • Director,
  • Manager / Secretary,
  • Practising Professional,
  • Authorised Representative,
  • Nodal Officer – IEPF,
  • Deputy Nodal Officer – IEPF.

In case you lose the registered DSC, you can also update the registered DSC on MCA Portal. For that, you need to use Update DSC service on MCA Portal.

  1. Go to the MCA Portal

    Access the mca.gov.in. Click on MCA Services > DSC Services > Associate DSC

  2. Select the Role of an individual from the dropdown list.

    Select Director from the dropdown list if you are associating director’s DSC.

  3. Enter the required details of an individual.

    In the case of director add DIN/DPIN, First Name, Last Name and DOB of a director. Click on Next.

  4. Enter Email id and click on Select Certificate to browse DSC certificate.

    Click on the checkbox to agree to the declaration and click on Submit.

A confirmation message will be displayed upon successful submission.

I have a provisional DIN. Can I register my DSC on MCA Portal?

No. Only those director with approved DIN can register DSC on MCA Portal.

Whether all the directors are required to register their DSC on the MCA Portal?

No. Only those directors who will be signing the eForms on behalf of the company are required to register DSC on the MCA portal.

Do I need to register my DSC multiple times for each company in which I am a director?

No. You only need to register your DSC one time.

Is PAN mandatory for DSC registration of a person other than the director?

How to register or update DSC on GST Portal?

DSC i.e. Digital Signature Certificate is an electronic signature of a taxpayer that is used for authentication to submit applications and file returns under GST. To digitally sign any document under GST, the DSC must be registered on the GST Portal.

To register a DSC on the GST Portal, the following criteria must be met:

  1. DSC should be PAN based and the type should be Class 2 or Class 3
  2. DSC must be issued by an authorised certifying authority
  3. Taxpayer must have a registered login account on the GST Portal

Steps to register or update DSC on GST Portal

  1. Insert DSC

    Insert the USB token containing the DSC into the computer system

  2. Run emSigner GSTN

    Run the emSigner GSTN to use DSC for signing on the GST Portal (Read more: Instructions to install emSigner)

  3. Login to GST Portal

    Login to your account on the GST Portal with valid username and password

  4. Navigate to Register / Update DSC

    Click on your business name on top right corner, select Register / Update DSC from dropdown

  5. Select PAN of Authorised Signatory

    The list of Authorised Signatory is available in the dropdown. Select the PAN of the Authorised Signatory whose DSC you want to register or update on the GST Portal. Click on Proceed

  6. Select DSC Certificate and Sign

    A pop-up box would appear on the screen. Select the DSC and click on Sign. Enter the password to authorize the DSC

  7. Success Message

    A success message will be displayed on successful registration of DSC

Is it mandatory for me to use DSC or can I opt for EVC?

To digitally sign documents on the GST Portal, it is compulsory for companies and LLPs to use DSC (Digital Signature Certificate). Other taxpayers like individual, HUF, partnership firms etc can either use DSC or EVC (OTP authentication)

What are the system requirements for usage of Digital Signature Certificate?

* Desktop Browser: Internet Explorer 10+/ Chrome 49+ or Firefox 45+
* Valid class 2 or class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) obtained from a DSC provider
